Training Sites

Central Massachusetts Region

Fitchburg, located on the Nashua River became know as a manufacturing center during the Industrial Revolution. It was founded by Amos Kimball, Samuel Hunt, and John Fitch who chose the name Fitchburg because it was synonymous with heroism.

Worcester is known for its many firsts including: Being the home of TRA's first Training Site and Skills for Life location. Worcester also hosted the first national Women's Rights Convention in 1850; was the home of the first radio station to play a Beatles song in the United States and in 1847, the first commercial valentine was mass produced here by Esther Howland.

Programs:

Fitchburg

Automated Office Systems/Medical – Provides a variety of classroom and hands-on training in job readiness, general office, clerical/computer software, and medical secretary skills. 

Career Prep - Provides short-term training in job readiness and workplace success skills with mini-skills computer courses.

Customer Service - Provides short-term training in job readiness and customer service job skills. 

Education to Work - Provides training in job readiness, reading at work, math at work, writing at work, and basic education skills.

English for Speakers of Other Languages to Work - Offers adult students with limited English proficiency education in job readiness and English for Speakers of Other Languages, focusing on workplace preparation.

Fast Track GED - Assists students with 10th grade reading level in attaining their GED with prep courses in math, reading, writing, social studies and science.

Office Careers – Provides short term training consisting of a combination of basic office/customer service skills, and job readiness and navigating computers.

Young Parents – Offers pregnant and parenting out-of-school youth, aged 14-21, who have not achieved a high school diploma with a variety of educational and life skills training. 

Worcester

ACHIEVE! – Serves out-of-school youth between the ages of 16 and 21, assisting with Adult Basic Education/GED preparation and more.

Adult Basic Education – Meets the specific educational needs of adult students who have limited basic reading, language and math skills and/or limited English proficiency.

Career Prep - Provides short-term training in job readiness and workplace success skills with mini-skills computer courses.

Customer Service - Provides short-term training in job readiness and customer service job skills. 

Education to Work - Provides training in job readiness, reading at work, math at work, writing at work, and basic education skills.

English for Speakers of Other Languages – Assists adult students who have limited English proficiency by meeting their specific educational needs.

English for Speakers of Other Languages to Work - Offers adult students with limited English proficiency education in job readiness and English for Speakers of Other Languages, focusing on workplace preparation.

Fast Track GED - Assists students with 10th grade reading level in attaining their GED with prep courses in math, reading, writing, social studies and science.

Nurse Aide/Home Health Aide/CPR Training - Offers classroom, lab and clinical training to prepare low income students for the Massachusetts Certification for Nurse Aides, as well as home health aide care and CPR certification.

Office Careers – Provides short term training consisting of a combination of basic office/customer service skills, and job readiness and Navigating Computers.

Pride Career Academy - A collaborative venture between Pride Productions, Inc. and TRA, provides comprehensive training for out-of-school youth, ages 16 to 21, including media production experience and Adult Basic Education/GED preparation.

Young Parents – Offers pregnant and parenting out-of-school youth, aged 14-21, who have not achieved a high school diploma with a variety of education, parenting, and life skills training.

YouthBuild – Provides low-income, out-of-school youth, aged 16-24 with on-the-job, hands on construction skills training and GED preparation.


Funding for the Central Mass. Region is derived from the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) through the Southern Worcester County Service Delivery Area and the North Central Massachusetts Workforce Investment Board Inc./Employment Links, Inc. Additionally, the Central Mass. Region receives direct funding from the MA Department of Transitional Assistance, the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the U. S. Department of Labor, MA DESE-YouthBuild funds, Saint-Gobain Corporation and Stoddard Charitable Trust.
