Central Massachusetts Region
Fitchburg, located on the Nashua River became know as a manufacturing center during the Industrial Revolution. It was founded by Amos Kimball, Samuel Hunt, and John Fitch who chose the name Fitchburg because it was synonymous with heroism.
Worcester is known for its many firsts including: Being the home of TRA's first Training Site and Skills for Life location. Worcester also hosted the first national Women's Rights Convention in 1850; was the home of the first radio station to play a Beatles song in the United States and in 1847, the first commercial valentine was mass produced here by Esther Howland.
Programs:
Fitchburg
Automated Office Skills – Teaches Navigating Computers, Microsoft Office, Internet Basics, Keyboarding, Office Procedures and more.
Office Careers – Provides short term training consisting of a combination of basic office/customer service skills, and job readiness and Navigating Computers.
Young Parents – Offers pregnant and parenting out-of-school youth, aged 14-21, who have not achieved a high school diploma with a variety of educational and life skills training.
ACHIEVE! – Serves out-of-school youth between the ages of 16 and 21, assisting with Adult Basic Education/GED preparation and more.
Worcester
Supported Work – Transitions participants to permanent, unsubsidized employment through "on-the-job" training at a company worksite.
Young Parents – Offers pregnant and parenting out-of-school youth, aged 14-21, who have not achieved a high school diploma with a variety of education, parenting, and life skills training.
Fatherhood
– Provides a variety of employment and training services to
non-custodial parents enabling them to secure employment and meet
financial/family obligations.
ACHIEVE! – Serves out-of-school youth between the ages of 16 and 21, assisting with Adult Basic Education/GED preparation and more.
Adult Basic Education – Meets the specific educational needs of adult students who have limited basic reading, language and math skills and/or limited English proficiency.
English for Speakers of Other Languages – Assists adult students who have limited English proficiency by meeting their specific educational needs.
YouthBuild
– Provides low-income, out-of-school youth, aged 16-24 with on-the-job,
hands on construction skills training and GED preparation.
Food Stamps
– Provides eligible Food Stamp recipients with education and training
services leading to increased education/skill levels, employment, and
increased advancement/earning power.
Funding for the Central Mass. Region is derived from the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) and Department of Transitional Assistance through the North Central Massachusetts Workforce Investment Board Inc./Employment Links, Inc. and the Southern Worcester County Workforce Investment Board/Workforce Central. Additionally, the Central Mass. Region recieves direct funding from the MA Department of Transitional Assistance, the MA Department of Education, the MA Department of Revenue, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the MA Department of Education-YouthBuild Funds.
