Training Sites

Lower Rio Grande Valley, TX Region

The Lower Rio Grande Valley, comprised of Cameron, Hildalgo, Starr, and Willacy counties, is noted for its subtropical climate.  As a result of the unique flora and fauna found in this area, it is one of the most biologically diverse regions in the entire United States.  The LRGV entices butterfly fanciers and bird watchers from all over the world.  Almost 40 percent of all butterflies found in the U.S. can be found in the LRGV.  Close to 500 species of birds have been recorded in this area.

Training Resources of America, Inc. is operating the following programs in the Lower Rio Grande Valley area:

Programs:

Career Prep Program – is a short-term skills development/enhancement program targeting eligible youth and adults age 18 and over who reside in Hidalgo, Starr and Willacy counties. This customer-focused program is designed to provide clients with the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need to find/upgrade employment opportunities enabling them to become self-sufficient. Additionally, the program's intent is to meet the needs of the Lower Rio Grande Valley's target industries by providing training in identified requisite skill areas. Based on individual need, Career Prep provides training in: Skills Development (active listening, reading comprehension, speaking, critical thinking, writing, math, coordination, monitoring, judgment/ decision making, and active learning skills), Basic Skills Brush-Up (math, grammar, spelling, and writing), Financial Literacy Skills Development (money, budgeting, banking and finance), and Brush-Up Computer Skills (XP Basics, Internet Explorer, Basic Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Keyboarding).  Current site locations include WorkFORCE Centers in Edinburg, La Joya, McAllen, Mercedes, Pharr, Raymondville, Rio Grande City, and Roma, TX.

GED Prep Program– serves out-of-school customers testing between grades 8 and 12 via the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE). The program offers focused instruction to prepare students to pass all official GED tests including Language Arts Reading, Language Arts Writing, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science. Training is provided through individualized, hands-on tutoring as well as online/computer-based, self-paced instruction under the supervision of a trained TRA instructor. As appropriate, group instruction supplements individualized programming. This non-traditional approach to learning empowers customers to achieve their educational goals in a minimal amount of time. Current site locations include WorkFORCE Centers in McAllen, Pharr, Raymondville, and Roma, TX. 


Funding for the Lower Rio Grande Valley sites is derived from the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) through Arbor E&T, L.L.C. and WorkFORCE Solutions.
