Western Massachussetts Region

Holyoke was once recognized as the "Queen of Industrial Cities", and also the "Paper City of the World", Holyoke was a powerhouse in the industrial revolution.

Springfield has the dubious honor of being home of Shays' Rebellion, a key event leading to the Federal Constitutional Convention.  It is also known as the birthplace of basketball, where in the late 1800s, a physical education teacher invented the sport at the Springfield YMCA to fill the gap between the football and baseball seasons.

Programs:

Holyoke

Nurse Aide / Home Health Aide / CPR Training – offers a classroom, lab and clinical training to prepare students for the Massachusetts state certification for Nurse Aides, as well as home health aide care and CPR certification.

Young Parents– Offers pregnant and parenting out-of-school youth, aged 14-21, who have not achieved a high school diploma with a variety of educational and life skills training.

Food Stamps – Provides eligible Food Stamp recipients with education and training services leading to increased education/skill levels, employment, and increased advancement/earning power.

Springfield

Food Stamps – Provides eligible Food Stamp recipients with education and training services leading to increased education/skill levels, employment, and increased advancement/earning power.


Funding for the Western Mass. Region is derived from the Department of Transitional Assistance; Workforce Investment Act (WIA) funding and Department of Transitional Assistance funding through the Hampden County Workforce Investment Board.
