On
September 15 three students from the Pride Career Academy, participated
in the annual United Way Day of Caring, along with YouthBuild
Instructor Kate Stromberg and GED Instructor Virginia Tremblay-Murphy.
The youth program Pride Career Academy is a partnership between
TRA-Worcester and Pride Productions, Inc. in which students learn media
production along with academics. They
began the day at the Dismas House, where former prisoners are engaged
in the hard work of rebuilding lives. The director and some staff spoke
with the students about the role of Dismas house. Residents talked
about the house, their lives and some of the reasons they ended up in
jail. Then the Pride Academy group went
to Crystal Park along with Dismas House staff and two residents. There
they worked for about 1 and 1/2 hours picking up trash and making the
park cleaner. A United Way staff came by to thank the group for their efforts. |
