Quincy
YouthBuild students and staff, along with volunteers from Eastern Bank
and the Quincy Housing Authority, recently grabbed scrapers and brushes
to paint the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church convent building.
The community service project
involved scraping, priming, caulking and painting the four-story
building's exterior, doors, window frames and fixtures.
Continuing to work over a period of weeks, the volunteers also did some
landscaping at the church and worked on the church's school building,
where they capped its leaking roof, secured vents and did other repairs.
"It was a gift from God," said Deacon Paul Lewis, expressing the
church's gratitude for the work which will make the buildings more
energy-efficient this winter.
Participating were: YouthBuild students Chad Richardson, Jose Robles,
Jordan Valle, Taquanna St. Louis, Christopher Larson, Charles
Zacharias, Matt McGonnigal, Chris Quintana; TRA and QHA staff Darcy
Cordner, Rhonda Callahan, Isabel Cobb, Nick Morganelli, Scott Dooley,
Keith Hale; and Eastern Bank employees Karen Zhang, Erin Sciarappa, and
Donna Kelbe. For more photos click here. |
