State Representative Tackey Chan, D. Quincy, was the guest speaker at the Quincy YouthBuild Graduation ceremony to honor this year’s graduates. The Quincy YouthBuild Program, operated by Training Resources of America, Inc. (TRA), graduated eleven students on Wednesday afternoon, October 29, 2014, at The Salvation Army Chapel, 6 Baxter St., Quincy, MA.

The graduates, ages 18 to 24, include: Deja Cleckley (18), Nicholas Donovan (18), Jacob Melamed (19) all of Quincy; Justin DeJesus (22), Rashad Fernandes (19), Isaiah Fye (19), Shakira Gayle (24), Tyraya Hargrove (24), Jamal Mikell-Skinner (18) all of Dorchester; Yovanni Ortiz (22) of Roxbury; and Mackenzie Smith (20) of Weymouth.

Quincy YouthBuild is partially funded through the state budget, which allocates funds to the Massachusetts YouthBuild Coalition under the umbrella of the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Representative Chan has been a staunch advocate for the program. This year, Representative Chan and his colleagues in the House of Representatives are gearing up to increase state funding for YouthBuild programs statewide in the Fiscal Year 2016.
