ESOL

New ESOL Draft Frameworks (released Sept 2005) - recently released by ACLS, these new draft frameworks should be reviewed by all TRA ESOL teachers as soon as possible.since opportunities to comment  on them and perhaps influence the final frameworks will occur over the next few week.  See your manager for dates.  You will also find a response sheet on this webpage that has to be submitted before October 15, 2005.

Dave's ESL Cafe- popular ESL website created by Dave Spirling which includes a wide variety of features for students and teachers alike including news, discussion pages, chats, quizzes, e-mail and job postings.  Also included are a wide variety of lesson materials on idioms, slang, verbs and quizzes.

ESL Lesson Plans and Resources for Teachers A huge  listing of ESL references for teachers including many ideas for lesson plans, classroom activities, prompts for conversation and writing assignments, exercises, quizzes, games, grammar and vocabulary, clipart, and classroom materials.

One Stop English - large site for ESL teachers

Internet TESOL Journal - monthly web journal from Teachers of English as a Second Language (TESOL) which includes articles, research papers, lesson plans, classroom handouts, teaching techniques, classroom games and jokes, and previous issues.
  
About the Human Internet: English as 2nd Language - ESL section of a major internet site devoted to providing information on a number of topics on the internet.  Claims to include over 700 ESL links.  Also provides its own features and a  catalogue for finding ESL information.

Cookbook of Ideas for the ESL Classroom   - a feature of Dave's ESL Cafe which includes a large collection of of more than 500 ideas and tips for teachers of ESL arranged into more than 20 categories including reading, grammar, pronunciation, writing, vocabulary, discipline, books, software and games.

Adult Education ESL Teacher's Guide  - the lessons and activities provided at this site are designed for adult learners. Features include: Beginning ESL Lessons and Accompanying Teacher Training Modules; Intermediate ESL Lessons and Accompanying Teacher Training Modules; and Teaching Non-Literate Adults.  All materials and worksheets are provided.

Guide to Grammar and Writing  - provides an excellent and comprehensive guide to English grammar, sentence construction, spelling and composition.  Also find categories for Forms of Communication  Ask Grammar and Online Interactive Quizzes.

Conversation Questions for the ESL/EFL Classroom   - a wide range of topics, each with a set of questions, that teachers will find useful as springboards for oral production practice or as prompts for journal writing assignments. Opportunity is also provided for teachers to add topics and questions.

EFL/ESL Class Handouts  - several of these handouts could be used as home practice
for your students.

ESL Partyland for Teachers - lots of resources for ESL teachers, including lesson plans, activities, and reproducibles.

Beginning ESL Lessons many of these lessons can be printed out for homework. They cover dialogue practice, drills, telling time, etc., as well as modules on how to teach: teaching pronunciation, teaching time, etc.

Intermediate ESL Lesson same as above, for more advanced students. Topics cover asking directions, shopping for groceries, dictation exercises, and more. They are written for adult ESL
learners, but can also be used for high school students.

English to Go Lesson Plans  - offers a free weekly lesson in some facet of the English language, called a Weekly Warmer, for all levels. While the weekly warmer is free however, be warned that using the archives of past lesson warmers requires a paid subscription.

Activities for ESL Students - large collection of quizzes and crossword puzzles for all levels of ESL students on vocabulary, grammar, and content areas.  Allows teachers to create their own drills and puzzles to add to the collection.
