My name is Crystal Matos and I am a teen mom. My son is 1 year old and I am 17 years old. I got pregnant at age 15 and had him at 16. It was so hard for me to be a mother at a very young age. By the time my son was 6 months old, we went into a TLP, which is a teen living shelter program. When I became permanent, I went into a general education diploma program. It’s called the Young Parents Program at Training Resources of America. I’ve been in this Young Parents Program for several months and am in the process of getting my general education diploma. I have already increased my math skills by two grade levels.

I attend YPP during the day as well as the Gateway to College Program at Massasoit Community College in Brockton in the afternoon. I will soon become a full time student at Massasoit where I will earn my High School diploma as well as college credits. I want to attend college to become a scientist.

It’s hard being a teen mom, but at the end of the day, if you do what you have to do you will become something in life. In addition, when people look back at how you used to be, they will be proud to see you succeed and accomplish your dreams.
