On June 21, 2016, Anne Hardy shared her personal and professional journey with Worcester YouthBuild students ... a journey that led her to a PhD in Material Science and eventually her current position at Saint-Gobain Corporation as Director of the Northboro R&D Center.

Anne also shared interesting facts about the research and development processes, some of the products developed by the SGC/ CertainTeed team (Who knew SGC developed a Teflon spatter-free grill top for McDonald's to cook their hamburgers on?), her focus on safety, and types of jobs at the R & D Center. Students also shared their stories with Anne.

Of her experience, Anne says, "It was a pleasure to spend time with the students today and I look forward to coming back next month!"

Anne's presentation gave YouthBuild students an opportunity to interact with a professional, learn about STEM careers, see a different life perspective, and feel valued as individuals.

On July 12, 2016, Anne returned to the Worcester YouthBuild classroom and helped staff teach a class on Geometry & Integrated Angles of Polygons. It was great to have her back again!

Below are some student comments:

"I enjoyed her story and hearing about how far she has come. I look forward to seeing her again!" ~ Alex Tayler

"I liked that she was the one who fixed things for her family instead of her husband. More women need to be like that!" ~ Yvan Tiako

"I appreciated that she really cared for her employees and I liked that she said she takes the work environment into consideration. Not every director is like that. I know from experience." ~ Jordan Martinez

THANK YOU ANNE!

AND THANK YOU SAINT-GOBAIN/ CERTAINTEED FOR MAKING "SCIENTISTS IN THE CLASSROOM" POSSIBLE!
