This year all three levels of the Worcester Adult Basic Education night classes participated in a Thanksgiving potluck supper.

Just as the Pilgrims and Indians brought different foods to the table, this feast reflected the diverse background of the participants.

In addition to students from Worcester, students from Ghana, Liberia, Puerto Rico, Somalia, and Kenya also enjoyed this American holiday.

The menu included rice, meat, homemade macaroni and cheese, bread pudding, apple and pumpkin pies, hot apple cider, cream puffs, and - of course - pizza! The homemade quacamole was quite a hit, said DESE Coordinator Erica Simons.

Just as in most families, students and staff worked together helping set up, bringing food and cleaning up afterwards.

After the feast, learning resumed. Some students had a review lesson. There was a Thanksgiving word/vocab challenge. Other students had their regular lesson – “just with a full belly!” she said.
