AmeriCorps / Quincy Youth Development Program: integrates a Corporation for National Community Service (CNCS)/ Massachusetts Service Alliance AmeriCorps Program with Quincy YouthBuild utilizing 26 members and 50 volunteers from the Quincy area. The program addresses 3 service need areas: 1) housing rehabilitation/ construction for low-income and homeless families, 2) Adult Basic Education/ GED preparation for low-income youth who have dropped out of school and 3) increased volunteer and community service opportunities for youth and adult residents to benefit the Quincy community. The community service projects will address a variety of community needs including the improved energy efficiency of low-income housing and supporting local homeless shelters, food pantries, faith and community-based organizations, etc. This will result in youth members’ and volunteers’ increased awareness of their civic responsibilities as well as attainment of life-long skills that will enable them to positively impact on the community in which they live and work.
